Barbara moved to the Coastside in 2014, after 25 years in Palos Verdes and 3 years in the Peace Corps in Mexico.

Barbara says that she was inspired to join the first GCSD Parks Advisory Committee and then to run successfully twice for the board because she was excited by the opportunity and challenge of planning and implementing the park and recreation center that the community voted for in 2014. She thought her experience in land preservation, government relations, and leading nature walks would help her play a positive role in that process.

Barbara volunteers as a Docent at Fitzgerald Marine Reserve and with Coastside Land Trust where she organizes and documents the annual monitoring of conserved land.  She and her husband John enjoy traveling and spending time with their family - especially their three daughters who live in the Bay area and their four grandchildren, who call her "Kiki." When she is not babysitting or volunteering, she hikes throughout the County looking for birds, learning a lot about local species and habitats.
